Watch 'A Christmas Story' As Many Times As Humanly Possible on Christmas Day

This seems to have become pretty commonplace ever since TNT began airing a 24-hour marathon of “A Christmas Story” on Christmas Day back in 1997 (TBS took over the marathon in 2004, and this year it’s playing on TCM). My dad is obsessed with this movie about a kid who just wants a Red Ryder air rifle for Christmas, so much so that we once took a family trip up to the A Christmas Story House & Museum in Cleveland, and it’s playing on our TV pretty much all day on Christmas—last year I think we watched it at least five of the 12 showings of it on TBS. Watching a movie over and over ( . . . and over . . . ) again might seem like a waste of time, especially on Christmas, but this movie has so many jokes and asides packed in that you’ll find something new to laugh at in every viewing. And it makes for a great way to bond with your relatives who might not be particularly verbose otherwise (hi, Dad). (Anna Walsh)
