Craft Fairs

The holidays are prime craft-fair season for obvious reasons, and in Baltimore there is no shortage of artists and crafters making things and hoping to sell them. And thank god, because we would so much rather buy a sweet-smelling handmade candle or a screenprinted poster or a painting by a local artist for our sister than a factory-made scarf that we bought at Target (again). In recent years at some of these fairs, we’ve ogled lovely ceramic cups and bowls by Tina Haines, perfumes and lip balms by Priya Means Love, badass sea creatures on Spaghetti Kiss apparel, Annie Howe’s intricate paper cuts, various handmade books, wallets, mixed media art by several artists, and so much more. Basically, there are plenty of unique gifts for everyone on your list at these seasonal craft fairs: Winter Craft Fair: Dec. 5, 4 p.m.-7 p.m., Baltimore Free Farm, 3510 Ash St., baltimorefreefarm.org; Merry Mart: Dec. 6, 11 a.m.-6 p.m, Creative Alliance, 3134 Eastern Ave., (410) 276-1651, creativealliance.org; MICA Art Market: Dec. 9-Dec.12, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, MICA Brown Center, 1301 W. Mount Royal Ave., mica.edu/Art_Market; Holiday Heap: Dec. 12, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., 2640 Space, 2640 St. Paul St., charmcitycraftmafia.com. All fairs have free entry. (Rebekah Kirkman)
