2015 Gift Guide: Broadway

If you hate yourself, you could do your Christmas shopping by driving up to the Towson Town Center, struggling to find parking in its gargantuan parking garage, and joining the swarms of pissed-off suburban shoppers as you walk in a haze between stores for big national chains. Or you could do yourself a favor and go down to Fells Point instead to walk around on Broadway. Sure, parking is just as difficult to navigate, but you can always take the Green Charm City Circulator to get there from downtown. And although this street doesn’t have big-name national retailers or as many stores as Towson Town Center, you should be able to find gifts for pretty much everyone on your list, especially if you wander off to Aliceanna (page 41) or Thames (page 44) streets.

Brightside Boutique (732 S. Broadway, [410] 522-1337, brightsidebaltimore.com) has plenty of fashionable clothes, but it also has some original, sweet greeting cards, as well as the perfect gifts for the pop-culture-obsessed people in your life: There’s a Kardashian votive candle ($10) that calls Caitlyn Jenner the patron saint of courage, and if you really want to flatter someone, buy them the coffee mug ($14) that says, “Do you ever sit with your friends and realize you’re the Beyonce?” Swing by Joe’s Bike Shop (723-B S. Broadway, [443] 869-3435, joesbikeshop.com), which won Best Bike Shop in CP’s 2014 Best of Baltimore Readers Poll, to pick up supplies for those who are more athletically inclined. For the femme folks in your life, visit Party Dress (723 S. Broadway, [410] 675-5105, facebook.com/partydressbaltimore) for pretty, contemporary necklaces that range from $16 to $60—and while you’re there, you might as well consult the friendly staff and pick out a new dress for all your upcoming holiday parties.

For stocking stuffers, get an edible card for dogs ($2.99) from Unleashed by Petco (609 S. Broadway, [410] 276-0615, unleashedby.petco.com) or Polish candies for humans from Sophia’s Place in Broadway Market (1640-41 Aliceanna St., [410] 342-6105, bpmarkets.com). And while you’re in the Broadway Market, suck down some oysters at Sal’s Seafood ([410] 675-1466) or munch on a pretzel from The Pretzel Twist—I’m guessing it’ll taste better than something from the Auntie Anne’s at Towson.
