3. Schwarz, 'Hands Up Don't Shoot' (self-released)

Local producer Schwarz, a St. Louis native, posted this song seven days after Officer Darren Wilson murdered Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. Schwarz highjacked Blaqstarr's immortal 'Hands Up Thumbs Down,' inserted the "don't shoot" chant of protesters and an ear-piercing loop of the police's Long Range Acoustic Device, and turns a club anthem into a primal scream that grows more frustrating with every listen. This is not a protest jam but a solidarity cry, a 144-second reminder that sometimes we can't dance our pain away. (Bret McCabe)
