Wednesday: Gladys Knight

Aug. 30

Break out your favorite lemon-scented all-purpose cleaning solvent. Open the beautiful shower curtains that look better in the living room. Lift up the windows and let the sun shine into the house to save just a little bit of money on that BGE bill. Summon the Empress of Soul and let yours go where peaceful waters flow. Gladys Knight is an icon whose career started before she was 10 years old. Her journey in music is a testament to what happens when you persevere. She and The Pips formed their group and toured together throughout the ‘50s, and would eventually sign to Motown in 1966. Boasting several classics such as ‘I Heard It Through The Grapevine,’ ‘Neither One Of Us (Wants To Be The First To Say Goodbye),’ and ‘On and On,’ Gladys Knight & The Pips is a go-to for a mean shoulder work-stink face combination fit for any occasion, whether it be cleaning the house, hanging with friends, or line dancing with your favorite aunt at the late-summer cookout while your cousin asks your uncle if the hot dogs he's burning on the grill are beef or pork. 7:30 p.m., Pier Six Pavilion, 731 Eastern Ave., (410) 547-7200, piersixconcert.pavilionboxoffice.com, $60-$554.
