Tuesday: G Herbo, Zuse, MobSqua Nard, Ferrari Ferrel, and Drewskii Doe

Dec. 15

Formerly known as Lil Herb, G Herbo is one of the many rappers to come out of a Chicago street-rap renaissance over the past three years or so. No surprise, this renaissance has coincided with a devastating murder rate in the Windy City, which should be a reminder to all who don't take "gangsta rap" seriously that rap is not the cause of violence, but rather a creative, expressive response to violence and a way to channel the stress and fear that comes with living in a blighted city. So understand the brash, growling party track 'I'm Rollin'' along with the rest of the recent album "Ballin' Like Kobe" by G Herbo in that context. The tracks by the 20-year-old might feel even weightier given the recent news on the police killing of Laquan McDonald, which the New York Times recently called a "cover up." And get there early for dancehall-inflected trap rapper from Kingston, Zuse, one of the most underrated guys making hip-hop right now. 8 p.m., Baltimore Soundstage, 124 Market Place, (410) 244-0057, baltimoresoundstage.com, $15-$17.
