Thursday-Sept. 4: The Maryland State Fair

Aug. 24-Sept. 4

At long last, it's here. The deep-fried food, racing piglets, prize-winning produce, livestock displays, award-winning crafts, portable ferris wheels and tilt-a-whirls, thoroughbred racing, off-track betting, large stuffed animals, carnival games, that exhibition hall with the large walk-through candy store and gutter guard salespeople, and the music of Halestorm and Sabrina Carpenter—all crammed into a Timonium parking lot. If Maryland is America in miniature, then the Maryland State Fair is America in miniature, in miniature. Hop the Light Rail north and enjoy the glorious bounty of the Old Line State and good ol' American excess before summer turns to fall. Opens at 9 a.m. everyday for livestock and horse shows, 2200 York Road, Lutherville-Timonium, (410) 252-0200,, $8, seniors (62 and over) $6, ages 6 to 11 $3, age 5 and younger free. (Brandon Weigel)
