Thursday: Kurt Vile & the Violators

Oct. 6

Last week, Kurt Vile posted a photo of one of his very young daughters gripping a Yuengling on Instagram—just more evidence of how undeniably chill and cool this guitar hero from Philadelphia really is. Or OK, "neurotically chill," as Rebekah Kirkman so accurately described him in a live review last time he came through Baltimore earlier this year. No matter, Vile is one of the dudes doing really interesting things in the rock n' roll/folk mode, especially on his most recent releases, the 2015 album, "b’lieve i’m goin down"—a more Americana-tinged record than the braggadocious Neil Young on "Zuma" thing he whipped out on 2013's "Wakin' On A Pretty Daze" or the stoner troubadour steez of "Smoke Ring For My Halo"—and his split EP with the Allman Brothers-meets-Pavement rocker Steve Gunn titled "Parallelogram." 8 p.m., Ram's Head Live, 20 Market Place, (410) 244-1131,, $23-$25.
