Thursday: Friends Records Matinee Show: Spring Edition

April 21

Getting old sucks--and I'm not even that old. But man, getting out to shows seems like a lot more effort all the sudden. Especially when a few select places run on the slow crawl of "Baltimore Time." Stand around until 12:45, teetering on the brink of falling asleep, until the headliner comes on or stay home and watch Netflix? These days, Netflix is winning out more and more. Which is to say I'm glad Friends Records is putting on a show at time suitable for crotchety thirty-somethings and folks even older and more ornery. Come on out and enjoy the soothing sounds of Peals, hypnotic psychedelia of The Violet Hour, free jazz honking of Microkingdom, and propulsive rhythms of Oh Hang. Everything starts around happy hour, meaning you'll be home in time to get a good night's sleep for the next day of being a real adult. 5 p.m., The Windup Space, 12 W. North Ave., (410) 244-8855,, $7. (Brandon Weigel)
