Sunday: "Pearls on a String: Artists, Patrons, and Poets at the Great Islamic Courts"

Nov. 8

Through Jan. 31, 2016, The Walters Art Museum, 600 N. Charles St., (410) 547-9000,, free.

The Walters' new exhibition of ornate narrative paintings, textiles, ceramics, jeweled items, and calligraphy from the Mughal, Safavid, and Ottoman empires delves into the relationships between artists, poets, and craftsmen and the mega-rich guys for whom they created masterpieces. It’s the first show to really explore the lives of the people who had a hand in forming Islamic art and culture, and will shed new light on the museum’s Islamic art collection, which is pretty incredible in its own right.
