Sunday: A/V Cart: Baltimore Uprising

Nov. 22

For the one-year anniversary of E.M.P Collective's A/V Cart series, the focus is the Baltimore Uprising and art pertaining to it, namely, filmmaker Malaika Aminata's "Not About A Riot," a documentary about the events following the death of Freddie Gray with a focus on the activism and community response rather than, you know, that fucking footage of a burning CVS over and over again. It's a movie that seems intent to parse the elements of the uprising (City Paper's Baynard Woods laid out "a very clear taxonomy: the uprising was the entire thing; the riot is what happened on April 27 at Mondawmin; the protests were all of the individual marches and demonstrations that made up the uprising.") and push thinking away from using the phrase "Baltimore Riots." 6 p.m., E.M.P. Collective, 307 W. Baltimore St., (410) 244-0785,, $8. (Brandon Soderberg)
