Saturday: Pigtown Festival

Oct. 8

This is always one of our favorites because the festival in southwest always manages to gather a big, diverse crowd of people. Oh, and of course there's festival staples like great food, live music, and local artists and merchants selling their wares. But no other festival has little piglets racing around a track. It's like the workingman's Preakness Stakes (naturally, it also calls back to the time when pigs roamed the streets of Pigtown, hence the name.) This year's music lineup includes two stalwarts, The All Mighty Senators and Kelly Bell Band, along with Footwerk. There's also going to be Oliver Brewing Company beers and "Pigtown Crush Cocktails." For $20 in advance ($25 on site), you can buy a bottomless drink cup. There's no beating that. Noon-7 p.m., 700 Washington Blvd., pigtownmainstreet.org, free. (Brandon Weigel)
