Saturday: Lil Boosie

Aug. 6

The last time Lil Boosie played RoFo, it was 2014 and his scheduled openers were local rap phenomenons Lor Scoota and Young Moose. East Baltimore's Moose never got to play the show—a few days before he was arrested so that he, according to Moose and his lawyers, couldn't perform. It set off an ongoing two-year back-and-forth with the police that has found Moose in and out of jail. Scoota meanwhile, is dead: shot and killed back in June. And so, this show from Baton Rouge confessional rapper and Baltimore favorite Lil Boosie seems especially poignant—and that's on top of it being Boosie's first return to Baltimore since his bout with kidney cancer. Also on the bill is Washington, D.C.'s Shy Glizzy, a collaborator with Scoota (he appeared on the remix to 'Bird Flu'), one of the most exciting rappers around right now. Glizzy just released his mixtape "Young Jefe 2," which mixes somber tales of the streets and lovey-dovey street raps over crafty, askew trap instrumentals. It's a terse, "softer side of Shy Glizzy"-style mixtape. 7 p.m., Royal Farms Arena, 201 W Baltimore St., (410) 347-2020,, $38-$153. (Brandon Soderberg)
