Saturday: Kahlon

March 26

Last issue, I wrote the long-ass story "F The City Up" about the DIY club/hip-hop/R&B scene, which revolves around the avant-dance contributions of Abdu Ali and many others (including Greydolf and JPEGMAFIA). It made sense to go long on the scene as it is about to, seemingly, go big. The best evidence of its increasing success is the bimonthly Kahlon party (coorganized by Lawrence Burney and DJ Genie with the help of Chanel Cruz doing promotion, Theresa Chromati creating the flier art, and Jedicom doing projections) turning into a music festival proper later in the year. So yeah, this is probably the last Kahlon as we've all known it for a little over two years. Performers this time include TSU Dance Crew, Kelow Latesha, Serpentwithfeet, and Blackhandpath, along with DJ sets from Ali, DJ Trillnatured, DJ Genie, and DJ Fleg. 9 p.m., The Crown, 1910 N. Charles St., (410) 625-4848,, $10. (Brandon Soderberg)
