Through his new CD set and book, folklorist Clifford R. Murphy unpacks the music and lasting legacy of Ola Belle Reed, a string band musician and singer-songwriter and Maryland transplant by way of Ashe County, North Carolina—a key piece of the migration of musicians from Appalachia to the Mason-Dixon Line. Hear Murphy discuss mining Reed’s previously unreleased recordings and documenting the music of her descendants, which includes her nephew, local musician Zane Campbell.
