Monday: "Frederick Douglass"

July 4

11 a.m. and 2 p.m., Fort McHenry, 2400 East Fort Ave.,, $10 for adults, children free.

Some Independence Day celebrations seem to gloss over the more…unpleasant parts of our country’s history. Before fireworks and firing up the grill, watch Frederick Douglass interpreter Michael Crutcher keep it real with his delivery of Douglass’ speech “The Meaning of July 4th for the Negro.” There will be a question and answer period following the speech.
