"Cutz: Black Men in Focus"

On view through Oct. 30, opening celebration 6-9 p.m. Oct. 9, Gallery CA, 440 E. Oliver St., (410) 528-9239, galleryca.org, free.

Social worker and artist Gracie Xavier's photographs of everyday activity in African-American barbershops, created in collaboration with local businesses, schools, and community groups, document black men on their own terms and counter the racist representations of "thugs" all too frequently promoted in the media.
