Friday: Variations on Magic

Aug. 18

Summer is not a fun time for theater addicts. You can get small fixes here and there between Artscape, outdoor Shakespeare productions, and off-Broadway tour stops at the Hippodrome if you can swing the pricey tickets, but that’s about all you get while companies take their deserved between-season breaks. So if you’re suffering from stage thirst, don’t pass up Rapid Lemon Production’s 13th annual festival showcasing 10-minute plays by 12 local playwrights, including Alice Stanley, City Paper’s pick for Best Director last year. Here, you can see more plays in one sitting than most people probably see in a year. This round of plays revolves around magic, and a ticket gets you a vote for next year’s theme. Through Aug. 27, Baltimore Theatre Project, 45 W. Preston St., (410) 539-3091,, $20. (Maura Callahan)
