Friday: "The Taming of the Shrew"

Nov. 6

Through Nov. 22, St. Mary’s Community Center, 3900 Roland Ave., (410) 921-9455, shakespearefactory.org, $15-$20.

“Shrew” is one of Shakespeare’s most popular comedies, but its dirtbag-dude-abuses-strong-woman-into-subjugation story line has had feminist critics scratching their heads over Shakespeare’s sense of humor for ages. Depending on how it’s theatrically interpreted, it can come across as a sexist mockery of female strength, a conscious testament to the cruelty of patriarchal values, or something else altogether.
