Friday: Space Launch

Dec. 11

Nomadic, DIY theater companies often produce some of the most creative work in town, but it's always exciting to see what those companies do once they have spaces to call their own. After performing in various locations including churches, Area 405, and, most recently, University of Baltimore (for its co-production of Stephen Sondheim's "Assassins" with Spotlight UB), Stillpointe Theatre Initiative is moving to its new residence on the same Charles Street block shared by the Baltimore Improv Group, The Strand, and The Yellow Sign Theatre. Celebrate with the company members and enjoy cocktails and live performances in celestial style ("space launch," get it?). Stillpointe has a knack for making impressive, big-idea productions work on a DIY scale (we gave Stillpointe Best DIY Pop Sensibility in 2014 and Best Musical for its production of Tony Kushner's "Caroline, Or Change" last December), so we can't wait to see what happens on its own stage. 8 p.m.-midnight, StillPointe Theatre, 1825 N. Charles St.,, $7 advance, $10 at the door. (Maura Callahan)
