Friday & Saturday: Elvis' Birthday Fight Club

Jan. 15 and 16

Elvis does nothing for me—I appreciate his use of sequins, but he stole music from black musicians and turned it into an early incarnation of dad rock. "Fight Club" also does nothing for me; I got that fascination out of my system, like many people my age, as an angsty, nihilist teenager who enjoyed punching boys. And birthdays are fun, sometimes. But put these very different things together, and I'm very interested. In its six-year history, this burlesque-battle-party hybrid thing has also thrown in appearances from Diane Rehm, Vladimir Putin, Steven Hawking, and unicorns, with hosts burlesque star Kittie Glitter and, obviously, Elvis. There's no telling who will be wearing the gloves this year. 8 p.m., Creative Alliance, 3134 Eastern Ave., (410) 276-1651, creativealliance.org, $17-$23. (Maura Callahan)
