Friday: FLxXx-MAS: Club Wonderland

Dec. 18

Whatever it is that is happening in this city's music scene right now is as worthy of WTFs and accolades as it was in the mid-2000s when Wham City broke and Rolling Stone and all the rest swooped in all excited-like. And better yet, it is more reflective of the city—more diverse, queerer, and radically open-eared. You witness it at events like the ones put together by Balti Gurls, Abdu Ali and Lawrence Burney's Kahlon, or this year's inaugural FutureFest (winner of City Paper Best New Festival 2015), which was organized by Scraper World Entertainment who also organized this avant-garde-nodding holiday event. The lengthy lineup includes lackadaisical basement rapper Buffa7o, sample slurrer Co La whose 2015 album "No No" is one of the year's best, black-metal-nodding blunted beatmaker Eu1ogy, lo-fi MC and vocalist Greydolf, the shoegaze-meets-R&B stylings of Ponyo, Mykki Blanco-co-signed noise rapper Psycho Egyptian, Qiera, Black Ribbon, and DJ sets from Nasty Boy X, P. Morri$, Spank Rock, and some kind of "surprise guest." 9:30 p.m., EMP Collective, 307 W. Baltimore St., (410) 244-0785,, $10. (Brandon Soderberg)
