Dec. 9: Under $500

Maryland Art Place's annual "Under $500" is a great event to find some good artwork that bolsters this city's art scene. And for a nice price—a portion of the proceeds from work that sells goes back to MAP, and the artists keep the rest. (Disclosure: I was invited to participate in 2014, and sold two paintings.) This year, admission gets you snacks and an open bar, as well as first dibs on art by Hoesy Corona, Ginevra Shay, Antonio McAfee, Cara Ober, Jessie Unterhalter, Katey Truhn, Victor Torres, and a couple dozen more. If you can't make it on the 9th, stop by the next day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (free admission) to pick through what's left. (Further disclosures: This year's artists also include occasional CP contributors Audrey Gatewood and Dana Holgerson, and friend of the paper Lydia Pettit.) 7 p.m., Maryland Art Place, 218 W. Saratoga St., (410) 962-8565, mdartplace.org, $25 advance, $30 at the door. (Rebekah Kirkman)
