Police arrested a man and charged him with murder. They arrested two others and charged them with attempted murder. Last year as of this date Baltimore had 225 murders.
Monday, Aug. 15
11:30 p.m. Bruce Hamilton, a 17-year-old African-American boy, was shot in the stomach in the BP Gas station parking lot on the 900 block of N. Monroe Street. A police officer happened by and saw a crowd of people gathered around him. The cop got an ambulance to take Hamilton to the hospital, but he died. The officer also brought several "potential witnesses" to be interviewed by homicide detectives. Hamilton had resided on the 900 block of Mosher Street.
Wednesday, Aug. 17
1:40 a.m. Antron Muse, a 35-year-old African-American man, was on the 1700 block of Malvern Street when someone shot him in the head. He died in the alley. Neighbors told police they heard the shot but saw nothing. Muse lived on the 6200 block of Fort View Avenue.
10:49 a.m. Steven B. Davis, a 47-year-old African-American man, was on the 200 block of Ellicott Driveway, near the eastern edge of Gwynns Falls Park, when someone shot him. A passer-by saw him and called police; medics pronounced him dead. Davis had lived on the unit block of S. Bentalou Street for many years.
Friday, Aug. 19
4:20 a.m. Troy Edward Johnson, a 35-year-old African-American man, was on the 200 block of S. Calhoun Street in Mount Clare when two men chased him down and shot him in the chest. A police officer on patrol saw the shooting and called the ambulance. The shooters got away. Johnson, of the 1800 block of Vine Street, died later at a hospital.
9:25 p.m. Cedrick Whithead, a 46-year-old African-American man, was on the unit block of S. Monastery Avenue in Allendale, on the day after his birthday, when someone shot him in the upper torso. He died at Shock Trauma shortly after that. Whitehead made his home on the 8000 block of Woodgate Court, in the county.
Saturday, Aug. 20
7:40 a.m. Kevin Kernes, a 25-year-old African-American man, was on the 200 block of Bridgeview Road, near his home in Cherry Hill, when someone shot him in the head. Police found him there and medics took him to a hospital, where he died.
Police announced the arrest of Montana Barronette, age 21. He is charged with first degree murder in the May 3, 2014 shooting death of Alfonso Williams. Police say Barronette is a member of the Black Guerrilla Family and is responsible for many murders.
A 90-year-old woman who was beaten to death in her home on May 4 was named Mary Dicken-Hines, not "Dixon-Hines" as originally reported. Her death was officially ruled a homicide on Aug. 10. City Paper has had it listed as such since shortly after her death on May 24. Police continue to seek witnesses.
