Murder Ink 11/11/15: 9 murders this week; 293 murders this year

Nine more homicides tallied heading to 300, adding to the city's most violent year in decades

Nine more people were killed this week, at least eight of them by gunfire, piling more bodies on the most violent year in Baltimore in decades. Baltimore's per-capita homicide rate is more than 10 times New York City's.

Monday, Nov. 2

Earl Burton, a 31-year-old African-American man, was pronounced dead in a hospital from a gunshot wound to the head. He had been shot on Oct. 31, around 12:30 a.m., on the 1100 block of Laurens Street, at the edge of the Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood, where he made his home. Police have arrested Anthony Burris, age 25, and charged him in connection with the murder.

Tuesday, Nov. 3

6:15 p.m. Quantaz Christian, a 23-year-old African-American man, was on the 800 block of Lyndhurst Street in Edmondson Village, when someone shot him multiple times. He died at a hospital.

Wednesday, Nov. 4

3:45 p.m. Darryl Whitehead, a 25-year-old African-American man, was on the 2200 block of N. Fulton Avenue where the Penn North and Woodbrook neighborhoods meet, when someone shot him in the head. He died later at a hospital.

Thursday, Nov. 5

10:05 p.m. A 51-year-old man who police have not yet identified publicly was killed on the 4000 block of Grantley Road in the East Arlington neighborhood. Police found the man dead in the street after another person called them to the 5500 block of Reisterstown Road for an assault complaint. Police met that person, who said he was brought there by a friend after being assaulted on Grantley, nearly two miles away. Police drove there and found the dead man bearing "obvious signs of trauma," which they did not detail.

Saturday, Nov. 7

2:56 a.m. Two men were shot to death on the 3200 block of Chesterfield Avenue in Belair-Edison. Lerell McBride, a 37-year-old African-American man, was pronounced dead at the scene by medics. Robert Joseph Adams, a 38-year-old African-American man, was taken to a hospital and died there soon after. The men were neighbors on the 3400 and 3500 blocks of Cliftmont Avenue, a short walk from where they were killed.

9:07 a.m. Six hours after the last murders, and less than two miles away from them, police found a man they have not yet identified publicly on the 5500 block of Belair Road. He had been shot more than once, and was taken to a hospital. He died early Sunday.

Sunday, Nov. 8

1:34 a.m. Police found a man who had been shot several times dead on the 2700 block of Edmondson Avenue in the Mosher neighborhood of West Baltimore. They have not yet released the man's name publicly. On April 4 a woman named Carla Harrison was killed a block away.

4:25 p.m. David Moore, a 24-year-old African-American man, was on the unit block of S. Gilmor Street in Union Square when someone shot him. He died soon after at a hospital.
