Murder Ink: 6 murders this week, 241 this year.

Baltimore's homicide count continues to barrel toward 300 murders. Because of last week's Best of Baltimore issue and an early deadline the week before, this week's Murder Ink contains the last three weeks' homicides.

Monday, Aug. 31

6:12 p.m. Theophilus Ruffin, a 49-year-old African-American man, got into a dispute on the 4900 block of Challedon Road with his roommate, 28-year-old Melvin Russell. Russell is the son of Baltimore Police Lt. Col. Melvin Russell, who heads up the department's Community Collaboration Unit. Both Ruffin and Russell were stabbed multiple times, and Ruffin died. Russell was treated at a hospital for his wounds and released. He has been charged with murder.

Tuesday, Sept. 1

1:19 a.m. Keith Gale, a 29-year-old African-American man, was on the 500 block of North Fremont Avenue when someone shot him in the upper body. Police and medics found him there; he died at a hospital shortly thereafter. Police say they have no suspects and are looking for witnesses.

10:18 p.m. Antoine Smith, a 17-year-old African-American boy, was on the 2300 block of North Ellamont Street with a 16-year-old boy and an 18-year-old woman, when all three of them were shot. Smith died at a hospital from bullet wounds to his upper body. The other two victims were treated and released.

Thursday, Sept. 3

12:54 a.m. Lamont Montague, a 32-year-old African-American man, was on the 3000 block of Wylie Avenue when someone shot him. Police found him in the street with a bullet wound in his upper torso. He died in a hospital at about 9:30 a.m.

4:30 p.m. Kason Williams, a 33-year-old African-American man, was near the intersection of 9th and East Jeffrey streets in Brooklyn when someone shot him in the back. Police found a car crashed on the 3600 block of Saint Victors Street and took at least one person of interest into custody, but they did not announce an arrest. Police said Williams lived on the 400 block of North Kenwood Avenue.

Friday, Sept. 4

2:30 a.m. Terry Whittaker, a 35-year-old Caucasian man who police say was homeless, was on the unit block of West North Avenue in Station North when someone stabbed him multiple times. Police found him there, and medics took him to a hospital, where he died.

Monday, Sept. 7

10:30 p.m. Stonie Baker, a 45-year-old African-American man, was unloading his car on the 4000 block of Edgewood Road when someone came up and shot him several times. Baker was dead a half-hour later in the hospital. Police have no suspect or motive.

Friday, Sept. 11

9:42 p.m. Romel Simms, a 23-year-old African-American man, was on the 3800 block of Clifton Avenue with several friends when a gray four-door Buick pulled up and an African-American man got out from the passenger side, ran up to Simms, and shot him several times. The gunman then ran off. Simms, who lived around the block on the 2100 block of Mount Holley Street, died.

9:52 p.m. Minutes after the last murder, four and a half miles due east, Kirk Butler, a 45-year-old African-American man, was on the 2400 block of Barclay Street near his residence when someone shot him and a 9-year-old girl. Butler died at a hospital soon after. The girl was treated and released.

11:07 p.m. Thomas Meehan, a 26-year-old Caucasian man who resided in Dundalk, was near the playground on the 6100 block of Fortview Way in Medford when someone shot him multiple times. He died soon after in a hospital. Police are looking for witnesses.

Saturday, Sept. 12

3:30 p.m. A man who police have not yet identified publicly was shot multiple times on the 1900 block of Vine Street. He died soon after. Police are looking for witnesses.

Sunday, Sept. 13

4 a.m. Troy Mitter, a 34-year-old African-American man, was in a red Pontiac Grand Am at the Citgo gas station on the 2300 block of Harford Road when someone shot him in the head. A 53-year-old man in the passenger seat of the car was also shot in the left arm and survived.

Monday, Sept. 14

2:30 a.m. Police called for a shooting found a 39-year-old man, who they have not yet further identified, on the 5100 block of Arbutus Avenue in the tiny Langston Hughes neighborhood. He was shot more than once in the upper body, and died soon after at a hospital. His is the third murder this year in that neighborhood.

Tuesday, Sept. 15

2:21 a.m. Tondayo Johnson, a 29-year-old African-American man, was shot multiple times on the 2300 block of McCulloh Street, where the Penn North and Reservoir Hill neighborhoods meet. Medics took Johnson to the hospital, where he died. Police say they have no suspects or witnesses.

11:55 p.m. A man police have not yet identified publicly was on the 4600 block of Marble Hall Road in New Northwood when someone shot him multiple times in the upper body. Police found him there; medics could not save him.

Wednesday, Sept. 16

11:50 p.m. Dante Lamont Barnes, a 31-year-old African-American man, was on the 1000 block of North Kenwood Avenue when someone shot him in the head. A fire-department medic pronounced him dead. Police are looking for witnesses.

Friday, Sept. 18

3:33 a.m. Police responded to a fire at an apartment building on the 5200 block of Frankford Avenue. A woman who police have not yet identified publicly was found dead inside. A police spokesperson said the fire was being investigated as an arson, and that the woman's death was a homicide.

Saturday, Sept. 19

3:30 a.m. Antonio McNeil, a 31-year-old African-American man, was on the 900 block of North Calhoun Street in Sandtown-Winchester when someone shot him multiple times. He died on the street.

12:00 p.m. Cecil Harris, a 22-year-old African-American man, was on the 2800 block of Ashland Avenue when he was shot multiple times. He died at a hospital shortly afterward. Police are looking for witnesses. Harris was killed one block from where Dante Barnes was gunned down three days before.
