Seven murders a week is a 364-per-year pace.
A woman shot on the 2400 block of East Eager Street on July 12 did not die, as City Paper reported. She survived. A police spokesperson apparently misread a document and told the newspaper that the second victim in a double shooting had also died, when actually only one victim had. The newspaper's database of murders has been updated to reflect the change. We regret the error.

Police announced arrests in two murders last week. Shawn Oliver, 44, was charged with the July 16 murder of Mia Henderson, a transgender woman. According to charging documents, police forensics experts matched Oliver's DNA to material found under Henderson's fingernails. Also arrested was Jamel Martin, 18, who was charged in the February 2014 murder of Gregory Ware on the 2900 block of East Eager Street. Police say Ware called Martin and then went to meet him and got shot. They traced what they say is a .45-caliber pistol used in the murder to Martin, saying he had received the gun just eight days before the murder.
