Murder Ink: 11 murders this week, 193 murders this year

11 murders last week tied July 2015 as the most murderous month in Baltimore history, with 45 murders.

The murder rate continued to surge out of control and the city received help from federal authorities last week as 11 people were shot to death, and 13 others shot nonfatally. Police also shot a suspect and made arrests in one murder.

Monday, July 27

10:53 a.m. Michael Polston, an 18-year-old African-American man, was shot multiple times in the torso while on the 1600 block of West North Avenue, at the intersection of Penn and North, the epicenter of the protests relating to Freddie Gray's murder. Medics got Polston to a hospital but he died.

7:24 p.m. Franklin Grayson, a 24-year-old African-American man, was on the 2300 block of Druid Hill Avenue in the Penn North neighborhood, approximately two blocks from where Polston was gunned down earlier the same day, when someone shot him multiple times in the head and torso. He died later at a hospital. Grayson's last known address, according to police, was on the 2900 block of Erdman Avenue.

Tuesday, July 28

11:01 p.m. Lorod C. Warner, a 23-year-old African-American man, was on the 1400 block of Bloomingdale Road, at the confluence of the Winchester, Rosemont, and Northwest Community Action neighborhoods on the west side, when someone shot him in the head. He died there. Police say Warner resided in Randallstown on the unit block of Camano Court.

Wednesday, July 29

2:11 a.m. Three hours after the last murder, and six minutes away by car, Marquis Tisdale, a 24-year-old African-American man, was shot repeatedly in the back while on the unit block of North Abington Avenue, in the Carroll-South Hilton neighborhood of Southwest Baltimore. Police found him and an ambulance got him to the hospital, where he died. Shortly afterward, a 25-year-old man walked in with a gunshot wound to his leg. Police said this man was shot while in the North Abington Avenue area where Tisdale was shot. Tisdale's last known address, according to police, was on the 2200 block of West North Avenue.

6:57 p.m. Teon E. Simms, a 40-year-old African-American man, was shot multiple times in the body while on the 2200 block of Annapolis Road in Westport. Police were called for a report of gunfire and found him there, pronouncing him dead at the scene. Police say Simms resided on the 3700 block of Songbird Circle, about two miles south in Landsdowne.

Thursday, July 30

11:37 a.m. Jermaine Mitter, an 18-year-old African-American man, was shot in the head on the 3400 block of Elmora Avenue, in the Four-by-Four neighborhood of Northeast Baltimore. He was taken to a hospital and listed in grave condition before he died. Mitter is the third man to be murdered in that neighborhood in 2015. As the name suggests, it runs four blocks in each direction, encompassing less than a quarter of a square mile. Mitter resided on the 3300 block of Clifton Avenue, according to police, which is in West Baltimore, about six miles away from where he was killed.

10:15 p.m. Donte Dixon Jr., a 29-year-old African-American man, was shot multiple times in his torso while on the 4500 block of Edmondson Avenue, a few blocks from his residence in Southwest Baltimore's Rognel Heights. Dixon made it to a hospital but died soon after, according to police.

Friday, July 31

12:04 p.m. A 59-year-old man the police have not yet identified publicly was shot multiple times in the chest and leg on the 2900 block of Springhill Avenue, in the Park Circle neighborhood just above Druid Hill Park. The man died later at a hospital.

Saturday, Aug. 1

12:20 a.m. Terrence Boyd, a 29-year-old African-American man, was on the 1600 block of Cole Street in the Mount Clare neighborhood when he was shot in the head. He died at the scene. Police say he resided on the 1600 block of Hilton Street, about three miles northwest of where he was shot.

Sunday, Aug. 2

1:22 a.m. Darod Rosenburough, a 31-year-old African-American man, was shot multiple times in the chest while on the 2100 block of Vine Street in West Baltimore. He made it to a hospital but died later. His Twitter account, last updated two years ago, mainly retweeted Bible verses and motivational quotes.

2:26 a.m. A 28-year-old man whose name police have not yet released publicly was shot in the face and chest while on the 200 block of North Payson Street in West Baltimore. He died on the street.

Updates:

The person killed on the 5500 block of Rubin Avenue on July 26 was Marcus Downer, a 23-year-old African-American man.

On July 28 police arrested Ta-von Marrell Harris, a 35 year-old African-American man, and charged him with first-degree murder in the July 23 stabbing death of Clerow Myers. They said Harris used an "unknown cutting device" to kill Myers on the 4000 block of Glengyle Avenue.

Police identified the officer involved in a July 27 shooting of a man on the 200 block of South Augusta Avenue as Abdoul Yaguibou, who has been with the department for three years. The man he shot, who police have not identified publicly by name, remained hospitalized, police said.
