Three men were charged with two murders this week while nine others were killed. Shootings are up as well. We're still behind last year's record count, which was 180 by July 24.
Monday, July 18
8:24 p.m. Police called to an arson fire on the 3300 block of The Alameda and found Charles Ervin, an 83-year-old African-American man, dead inside his burned home. The detectives "observed visible trauma" to his body.
9:01 p.m. Albert Pittman III, a 25-year-old African-American man, was on the 4800 block of Midline Road in Frankford when someone shot him more than once. Police and medics found him; he died soon after arriving at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Pittman lived on the 2500 block of Hamiltowne Circle in Rosedale, a quarter mile away as the crow flies but nearly three miles by car. His was the second murder this year in Frankford.
10:50 p.m. Shaun Stewart, a 38-year-old African-American man, was standing near his home on the 700 block of Mello Court in the Gay Street neighborhood when a man shot him in the back and fled. Stewart died soon after at Hopkins hospital.
Tuesday, July 19
6:08 p.m. Sean Womack, a 22-year-old African-American man, was on the 2200 block of North Rosedale Street in the Walbrook neighborhood when someone shot him. He died soon after at a hospital. Womack had resided on the 3000 block of Gwynns Falls Parkway, according to police, about three blocks from where he was shot.
11:45 p.m. Neil Brown, a 26-year-old African-American man, was on the 3400 block of Old York Road in Waverly when someone shot him in the head. He died immediately. Police are looking for witnesses.
Thursday, July 21
1:50 a.m. Warren Williams III, a 22-year-old African-American man, was on the 3600 block of Garrison Boulevard when someone shot him and another man. Williams was hit in the torso. Police and medics came and got him to a hospital, where he died. Police found the other man a block away with gunshot wounds in the arms and legs. He was listed in critical condition at the hospital. Williams resided on the 3700 block of Elkanah Place in Randallstown.
Saturday, July 23
1:46 a.m. Eboni Thornton, a 26-year-old African-American woman, was in a home on the 300 block of North Carrolton Avenue when someone shot her and a 34-year-old man. She died. The man was taken to a hospital. Police believe two African-American men forced their way into the house, in which police say they found drugs and drug packaging equipment. The men shot the two victims and fled. It was the third murder in Poppleton this year.
Sunday, July 24
3:05 p.m. Todd Dillard, a 23-year-old African-American man, was on the 600 block of North Pulaski Street in the Midtown-Edmondson neighborhood when someone shot him. He died soon after at Shock Trauma. Police say Dillard lived on the 500 block of Poplar Grove.
5:32 p.m. Darius Kelly, a 20-year-old African-American man, was on the 900 block of North Caroline Street when someone shot him multiple times. He died soon after at a hospital. His was the second murder this week and the second this year in the Gay Street neighborhood.
Police identified two murder victims from the previous week: Jamal Eaton, a 24-year-old African-American man, was shot to death on the 1400 block of Retreat Street on July 16. Also that day, Jenna Manuel, a 24-year-old Caucasian woman, was shot to death on the 600 block of Maude Avenue.
Police also announced several arrests in recent murder cases. On July 13 a warrant squad arrested Frank Barnett, a 28-year-old African-American man, and charged him with the July 10 murder of William Johnson, a 49-year-old African-American man. On July 14 police arrested Carrington Sturgis, a 26-year-old African-American man, and charged him for the same murder.
On July 20 a warrant squad arrested Darron Brown, a 21-year-old African-American man, who was charged in the July 5, 2016 shooting death of Travis Powell. Brown was charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder because a second victim was shot and survived.
