Murder Ink: 4 murders this week, 12 murders this year

Another blessedly slow week on the murder front. Also, police have been seizing a lot of guns.

Tuesday, Jan. 12

9:15 p.m. Sierra Burley, a 29-year-old African-American woman, was in a home on the 5600 block of Haddon Avenue when a man broke in and shot her in the back and neck. A man who was in the house was shot in the head, but walked to a hospital and is expected to survive. On Jan. 21 detectives on a warrant squad arrested Trace A. Hanse, a 30-year-old African-American man, and charged him with first-degree murder. Hanse was charged with attempted murder in 2004, according to online court records, but was found guilty of second-degree assault and sentenced to five years in prison. He is held without bail on the current charges.

Monday, Jan. 18

4:05 p.m. Keith Vaughan, a 42-year-old African-American man, was inside a home on the 3400 block of Fairview Avenue, in the Forest Park neighborhood, when someone shot him at least once in the body. Police found him there, dead.
