The BMA Doreen Bolger announced her retirement from Baltimore's premiere art museum this week. Bolger, who became the BMA's director in 1998, was a towering figure in the city's art scene and recently steered the museum through the recession--which hurt the museum's endowment and led to 14 layoffs--and extensive renovations. Bolger, a consistent champion of local artists, wrote on Facebook, "Think of how much time I will now have to attend exhibitions, performances, and gatherings!"
