Cyclists When 41-year-old Thomas Palermo was killed while riding his bike in the bike lane on Roland Avenue, leaving behind a wife and two children, it sparked an outpouring of grief and activism from the city's cycling community. Hundreds turned out for a memorial ride, erected a white "ghost bike" at the site of the accident, raised $50,000 for Palermo's kids, called for the prosecution of alleged hit-and-run driver Heather Cook, and demanded motorists share the road.
