BPD The police department scored a major win this week, indicting 22 people in a vast dogfighting ring, the result of a yearlong investigation during which officers seized 225 dogs, 50 puppies, and 20 guns and showed a clear connection between animal cruelty and other violent crime, as eight of those indicted had been previously arrested for violent crimes, including murder. But a lawsuit last week alleging retaliation against a whistle-blower who called out corruption in the department keeps the public's focus on the BPD's many problems.
