Comings & Goings

• The Horseshoe Casino, coming soon to Downtown Baltimore (1525 Russell St.), has started to reveal how it intends to feed its gambling hordes, and it involves some well-known food celebrities. Guy Fieri, of bleached blond hair and WTF catch-phrase fame, will open Guy Fieri's Baltimore Kitchen & Bar, a 350-seat joint that's sure to have "Flavortown USA" throughout the menu. If you like your grub more James Beard than dyed beard, you might prefer Johnny Sanchez. John Besh, 2006 James Beard winner for best chef in the Southeast, and Aaron Sanchez, from the Food Network's Chopped, have teamed up on this Mexican-centric concept, which plans to serve farm-to-table tacos, tostadas, and other Southeast specialties. Now if only we could leave the craps table.

• Well that didn't last long. Less than a year after opening, The Chesapeake has closed. After months of construction and much anticipation for something to finally fill the forever-vacant Station North eyesore, the restaurant opened to mixed reviews and was never able to deliver on those expectations. Remember that $21 Manhattan? Now the Karzai restaurant group, owners of The Helmand, B Bistro, and Tapas Teatro, are set to open a new concept in the space as early as July, The Baltimore Sun reports. It should be noted that the Karzais were part of the original group set to open The Chesapeake but eventually backed out. It looks like they're back to finish what they started.

• Hampden-ites no longer have to trek across town to the Waverly Farmers' Market. They now have their very own Hampden Farmers Market-and considering the recent restaurant boom in the neighborhood, it's about time. Started by Bernard Dehaene, chef and owner of The Corner BYOB and The Other Corner Charcuterie Bar, the market takes place on Elm Avenue just off of 36th Street from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday. Bring your fresh veggies to Corner BYOB and they'll use them to make you an omelet.

• On June 14, the 300 block of N. Charles St. will transform from a traffic-snarled stretch of blacktop into an open-air block party called Let's Eat, Charles Street. The free event, hosted by the Historic Charles Street Association, will feature food, drinks and shopping from surrounding businesses. Sounds like a pretty damn good excuse to eat and drink in the street to us. Food vendors include B&O Brasserie, David & Dad's, Dooby's, Dylan's Oyster Cellar, Patisserie Poupon, and more. Beer and wine will be poured by The Brewer's Art and Urban Cellars, with your first drink on the house if you register ahead. (

• The former location of J. Patrick's Pub, the beloved Locust Point Irish bar that closed back in January of 2013, is finally getting new life when In Like Flynn Tavern (1371 Andre St.) opens its doors in early June. The spot received a complete overhaul both inside and out from landlord Steven O'Donnell and family owners Richard, Veronica, and Cora Flynn (City Paper Best Bartender of 2011). The remodel also includes a full-service restaurant serving items like house-made corned beef sausages, red snapper, and jerk burgers served on homemade pretzel rolls (the influence of Veronica, who is from Jamaica). And yes, J. Patrick's lovers, the Flynns have confirmed that there will still be lots of live music.
