Baltimore’s bus system has long been in shambles, with spotty service and overcrowded buses. It was overdue for an overhaul, and it was great that the MTA made the newly-routed buses free for two weeks. But holy crap, what a shit show! Reports that drivers didn’t know what the routes and schedules were compounded the change from numbered routes to color-coded. Why even do that? We liked the “transit ambassadors” and the dedicated lanes, and the overall route system and schedule seems to make more sense than it used to. But still we have late and overcrowded buses—only now it’s 10 cents more to ride.
