Best Fuck You Don’t Pay Me: Tawanda Jones

The bedrock of the local protest movement, Tawanda Jones, sister of Tyrone West, who was killed in police custody, has been protesting with her family about her brother’s death every week since July 2013. In July of this year, the West family settled a wrongful death lawsuit connecting West’s death to police misconduct and excessive force with the city and state for a total of $1 million. Jones was notably not part of that settlement—presumably in part so that she can still speak out (these settlements often come with a non-disparagement clause)—which allows her to keep holding the BPD accountable.
