Not long after we ran a profile of local hair and skincare company Oyin Handmade, there was a scandal in the natural hair community. A national brand released a new campaign geared toward white women, seeming to shift away from the black women who had loved and used their products for so long. The move had many people looking for a solidly black-owned company, and they found that in Oyin. Like co-owner Jamyla Bennu told us, “Your hair is awesome, shouldn’t your products be awesome, too?”
