Last year City Paper shared the horrors of living in Baltimore City public housing in our story on the J. Van Story Branch apartment building. Over a year later, the most recent word is that this building, full of seniors and disabled people, is still having major security problems. There are still hundreds of calls to 911 for armed robberies, shootings, and assaults. Emails from residents to City Paper claim that criminals have planted their roots in the building by “paying residents to hold their drugs in their apartments, while other dealers are paying resident[s] to allow them to live in the building.” The Housing Authority of Baltimore City is completely aware of the security issues that face these residents, but has done little.
