The Parkway (or OK, deep breath, full name: The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Parkway), a three-theater movie house that radically reinvents the 100-plus-year-old Parkway Theatre, first opened up during this year’s Maryland Film Festival where film buffs got to see its gorgeous, purposefully jumbled mix of old and new, restored and left crumbling. Since then, the run of movies playing there has been consistently unmatched, with plenty of revivals and lots of new arthouse flicks that wouldn’t otherwise come to Baltimore, and a number of free screenings with a focus over the summer on international nuggets and some queer cinema touchstones during Pride week—all of which really does allow The Parkway to live up to its lofty, inclusive “film for everyone” tagline. Not only is there no theater in the city like the Parkway, there’s really no theater quite like it in the whole country. Baltimoreans, take advantage.
