Best Yarn: Neighborhood Fiber Co.

Everything is political, including yarn. Karida Collins established the Neighborhood Fiber Co., located in a firehouse on Eutaw Street, to provide hand-dyed yarn that's not only of high quality, but also brightly colored, delicately dyed yarns and fibers with colors intended to reflect the multitudes of city living, providing a continuity between busied city life and the quiet and often isolated acting of knitting. Colors include Druid Hill, Mondawmin, Penn North, Remington, Roland Park, Station North, and Upton. So here is one time in which City Paper's much-hated word "vibrant" actually applies. And with classes on knitting, candlemaking, silk scarf-dying, and an annual dye retreat, Neighborhood Fiber Co. is an active, inclusive part of Baltimore's community.
