Best Venue: The Crown

1901 N. Charles St., (410) 625-4848,

What other city can boast a double-barrelled club complex in a former bus station? Maybe one or two, realistically, but they got nothing on Station North venue The Crown. Some nights are like an art school exploded from a spider egg, and both the Red and Blue rooms burst at the seams with exuberant psychedelic barflies of every stripe. Some nights are more meditative, giving space to poetry readings, jazz improvisors, and performance artists. Some nights it seems as if all of these worlds are colliding at once over kimchi fries and bulgogi tacos, and it is possible to be truly thankful for an expansive booking policy that embraces and nurtures all of the potent magical talent Baltimore has to offer.
