Best Series: Out of the Blocks, WYPR

Baltimore is a city made great by its neighborhoods and each neighborhood is made great by its individual blocks. As Jane Jacobs pointed out, the liveliness of blocks is what city life is all about. Producers Aaron Henkin and Wendel Patrick spend weeks hanging out on a single block in the city to bring us “one city block, one hour of radio, everybody’s story.” Henkin does the interviews, returning again and again to gain the trust of the residents, while Patrick takes photographs and then composes an original score to go along with each segment.
