Best Resting Judge Face: Judge Barry Williams

The Circuit Court Judge who presided over what’s been called “the Freddie Gray trials” was by turns stern and harsh. The stakes were as high as they get, and Judge Williams seemed at all times to fully inhabit his robes and the gravity of his duty. But he was not without humor, and his was not a poker face, and that was noticed. When the lawyers’ arguments seemed half-baked, he would raise his eyebrows, frown, and sometimes even scowl. “When you give me that face…” Deputy State’s Attorney Janice Bledsoe said at one point in her closing arguments in the trial of Lt. Brian Rice. Replied Judge Williams: “This is actually my normal face.”
