OK, so this isn’t one restaurant or stand in particular, but it is the prevailing choice for the best dining experience in the last year. We’ve never shied away from our love of Baltimore’s centuries-old system of public markets, most notably Lexington Market, and the wonderful display of humanity that occurs there daily. And don’t forget about the Northeast Market, either. But if we’re being honest, this award is also about the markets’ newer, more bougie counterparts, Mount Vernon Marketplace, and two other markets due to come soon, R. House and Whitehall Mill. Those last two should take the lead of Mount Vernon, which offers more than a dozen stands making food and drink with quality ingredients. Most important, though, is the way the markets function as community spaces, hosting book readings, live music, and trivia nights, while also encouraging little things like a friendly game of Ping-Pong or conversation over a beer. And here’s something every market offers that we always appreciate: variety.
