We love Clavel, but more often than not (to its credit) the restaurant has been packed and it’s tough score a table for dinner. So when it started serving brunch every Sunday, we jumped at the opportunity to take in a more laid-back affair at the Remington mezcaleria/taqueria. Also, let’s be honest: Mezcal before noon is always a great idea (until it’s not). But their Mexican-inspired breakfast is an even a better idea. Mayacoba beans pureed in lard and chorizo and laid down as a base to slow roasted pork cooked in an achiote and blood orange sauce with a leaky egg dripping down into the colorful cast iron pot is the perfect way to absorb fermented agave nectar. Add in single-source coffee served in locally made ceramic mugs, a selection of breakfast tacos and quesadillas, and innovative brunch cocktails (their incredible take on the Bloody Mary includes worm salt) and it’s something we almost don’t want anyone to know about. But we can’t hold back on such a gem as this.
