Best Video Game Band: Rare Candy

With members of the first video game generation approaching their 40s, it’s no suprise major orchestras such as the BSO have reimagined video game music for performances. The group Rare Candy, featuring bassist Chris Baines, keyboardists Matt Baros and Dominic Cerquetti, drummer John DeCampos, and guitarist John Smeltzer, gives these classics songs a treatment that’s a little less concert hall friendly. They tear up themes to games such as “Castlevania,” “Ghosts N’ Goblins,” “Mario Kart,” and “Xenogears” on their debut album “Finally,” released back in January, with the energy of a Mountain Dew-chugging gamer with only one enemy left before moving on to the next level.
