Best Comeback: Ama Chandra

Soul singer Ama Chandra almost didn’t see 2016. In July 2015, an intruder assaulted her in her home. She had the presence of mind to grab an iron and fight him off, but not before he stabbed her in the chest. Open-heart surgery and recovery in the ICU followed and, months later, she was feeling well enough to perform a solo show at the Creative Alliance. Titled “I Lived, Dammit!,” it was but the first time she would showcase her fierce creative spirit. She performed her “Kintsugi: She has made treasure from my scars” show, which included new songs, on the one-year anniversary of her attack and she continues to use her music as a force for healing and inspiration.
