Best Beatmaker: Jumbled

It’s hard to imagine a Hampden-based schoolteacher would be producing some of the most imaginative beats coming out of Baltimore, but that’s what makes Jumbled a dark horse in the local beat-making scene. Also known as John Bachman, Jumbled perfectly personifies Baltimore’s beloved, raw DIY culture through his vivid hip-hop and club beats. His latest album, “Wish It Was Longer,” is a curious exploration of hip-hop featuring relaxed rhymes and spoken word layered above jazzy rhythms and expertly chopped samples. As seen on his previous “Club Classics” and “Boom” EPs, his interpretation of club music is also unlike any other as he integrates his love for oddball vocal samples and interdisciplinary instrumentation into classic club breakbeats.
