Best Summer Jam: 'Bank Rolls' by Tate Kobang

Tate Kobang threw his hat in the ring of Baltimore’s rap game with last year’s “Crown Of Thorns” mixtape, but it was this year’s instant hit, ‘Bank Rolls,’ that really put the rapper on the map. Kobang refreshed Tim Trees’ 2002 hit ‘Bankroll’ into a bass-heavy anthem that quickly won over the streets and dance floors of Baltimore, and even got airplay on 92Q and stations outside the city. Shouting out familiar places in Baltimore like Biddle Street, The Alameda, even the old Hammerjacks, ‘Bank Rolls’ makes it easy to rep Baltimore from whatever hood you’re in. “I’m from bird city, nigga/ you already know”—Kobang is just as proud to be here as we are, even if he also has to say some dumb stuff like Morgan bitches are crazy and you gotta be strapped up no matter where you go.
