The Idle Hour always felt like a nightlife anomaly: a corner bar that could have been crafted in Brooklyn near the frat-like quagmire of Federal Hill. It’s a place where you can sit in a low-lit space and listen to great music knowing that they probably sell more chartreuse than any other bar in the United States. Over the past decade, owners Brendan Finnerty and Randal Etheridge have stuck to their aesthetics and made Idle Hour one of the best bars in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, this year, the wall behind the bar became structurally compromised enough to shut the establishment down. After a successful Indiegogo campaign that raised nearly $50,000, the building will get the vital work it needs to reopen. In the final days and hours of the fundraising, it was the community that rallied and saved this great bar from closing forever. Idle on, guys.
